Love Letter To Altadena

01/17/2026

Dear Altadena,

As this one-year anniversary approaches, we want to pause, as members of this community, and share our thoughts, our love, and our unwavering support.

The lead-up to January 7th has not been easy. Emotions are not easy to describe. Most of us are still riding the New Year high, thankful to move on from 2025 and leave it in the past, and yet creeping up behind us is a memory that feels like it happened just yesterday. For many, this season holds both hope and heaviness, forward motion, and flashbacks.

As I look back at this year leading up to January 7th, I am choosing not to forget and to persevere for each person who still needs to rebuild their life. And as I do, I can honestly say that in the last 365 days, I didn’t just feel loss, I felt belonging.

I learned individual stories and the power of togetherness. I learned to love the things we used to think were “just part of the day,” and to miss the things we didn’t notice until they were gone. And most of all, I learned to cherish the people who were always there, the neighbors, the friends, the families, and the community members who showed up, kept showing up, and refused to let anyone walk alone.

In the wake of devastation, we witnessed connection, generosity, and determination rise from the ashes. Neighbors became lifelines. Strangers became friends. People found their voices and stood up for one another. That spirit, your spirit, is part of what will carry this community forward.

And while we honor what has been lost and what still needs to be rebuilt, we also want to hold space for what comes next. There is a brighter future ahead, shaped by the people here, who are rebuilding and committed to evolving and growing stronger together. Genesis is part of this community and deeply invested in Altadena’s rebuild effort. We believe in that future, and we are proud to stand beside you as it takes shape.

Altadena, thank you for being more than just home. I’m so proud to be from such a wonderful community, and these last 365 days have reminded me of that.

We hope you find peace today, and please know we look forward to continuing to support you in the days ahead.

With Love,

Rebecca Zandovskis and Team Genesis
